Treatment of Traumatic Brain Injury at Liv Hospital

In infants and children, traumatic brain injuries are most commonly seen after falls from height. These incidents may range from mild injuries that only require observation in the emergency department for a few hours, to moderate or severe cases that demand several days of hospitalization.

Since traumatic brain injuries can sometimes be accompanied by spinal cord or vertebral injuries, children are managed in close collaboration between the Emergency Department and all other relevant specialties at Liv Hospital.

Procedures for Traumatic Brain Injury Treatment

The treatment approach depends on the severity and cause of the injury.

Treatment for Mild Traumatic Brain Injury:

  • Rest: Critical for brain recovery.

  • Pain relievers: Used to reduce headaches and discomfort.

Hydration: Drinking plenty of fluids can help lower the risk of brain swelling.

Treatment for Severe Traumatic Brain Injury:

  • Hospitalization: Patients are admitted for close monitoring of neurological and vital functions.

  • Medication: Used to regulate blood pressure, blood sugar, and other vital functions.

  • Surgery: Required in cases of brain bleeding, swelling, or structural damage.

  • Physical therapy: Recommended for patients who experience loss of physical function after trauma.

  • Psychological support: Since traumatic brain injury can also lead to emotional and psychological challenges, supportive therapy may be necessary for full recovery.
