While the world moves into a new phase of the pandemic, the medical community is increasingly focused on a complex and persistent challenge: Prolonged COVID Syndrome. To address this critical health issue, Liv Hospital Vadistanbul was proud to host the comprehensive scientific event, “Prolonged COVID Syndrome in All Aspects. This pivotal meeting assembled a diverse group of leading medical specialists to foster a deeper, more integrated understanding of the long-term effects of the virus.

The event was expertly guided by session chairs Prof. Dr. Levent Dalar, a distinguished Chest Diseases Specialist at Liv Hospital, and Prof. Dr. Gülgün Dilek Arman, a leading Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Specialist. Their collective expertise set the stage for a day of insightful and collaborative discussion.

The symposium began with a foundational presentation by Prof. Dr. Gülgün Dilek Arman on “COVID-19 Pathophysiology,” providing the essential scientific context for understanding how the acute infection can lead to chronic and debilitating symptoms. Following this, the program systematically deconstructed the syndrome, beginning with a crucial overview by Prof. Dr. Servet Kayhan, who addressed the fundamental questions: “What is Prolonged COVID, and Who Can See It?. The perspective of the most critically ill patients was shared by Prof. Dr. Simru Tuğrul, whose presentation focused on the unique challenges facing COVID-19 patients during and after their time in intensive care.

The core of the event featured a multidisciplinary deep dive into the widespread impact of the syndrome across the body’s systems. A roster of eminent physicians shared their specialized knowledge:

  • Pulmonary Effects: Prof. Dr. Ayşe Aralenen presented on “Lung Radiology in Recovery and Late Period.”
  • Cardiac Effects: Prof. Dr. Gökhan Kahveci detailed the cardiovascular complications.
  • Neurological Effects: Prof. Dr. Ayhan Öztürk explored the neurological manifestations.
  • Gastroenterological Effects: Prof. Dr. Erdem Koçak discussed the impact on the digestive system.
  • Nephrological Effects: Prof. Dr. Tevfik Ecder covered the consequences for kidney health.

The symposium then shifted focus toward recovery and management. Dr. Aynur Metin Terzibaşıoğlu, a Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Specialist from Gaziosmanpaşa Training and Research Hospital, delivered a vital talk on “Rehabilitation in Prolonged Covid. The event concluded with a forward-looking presentation on “Prolonged Covid Treatment” by Prof. Dr. Sinem Nedime Sökücü from Yedikule Chest Diseases and Thoracic Surgery Training and Research Hospital. This comprehensive approach ensures that the medical community is equipped not only to diagnose but also to treat and support patients on their long road to recovery.
