Lung Problems in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Symposium Held at Liv Hospital Vadi İstanbul
The “Lung Problems in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Symposium took place on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at the Liv Hospital Vadi İstanbul Conference Hall, organized with the contributions of Liv Hospital, İstinye University, and the Pediatric Chest Diseases Association.
Led by Prof. Dr. Erkan Çakır and Prof. Dr. Tülin Tiraje Celkan, the symposium gathered a wide range of physicians and experts to share knowledge, discuss treatment approaches, and present clinical experiences on respiratory problems in pediatric hematology and oncology patients.
Opening Ceremony

Session 1: Respiratory Distress and Management in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Patients
Chaired by Rejin Kebudi and Fazilet Karakoç, this session featured contributions from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adem Dursun, Nilay Baş İkizoğlu, Ayşe Ayzıt Kılınç, Ayşe Uçar Kalyoncu, Demet Demirkol, Ayşegül Ünüvar, Betül Çakır, and Sebuh Kuruoğlu, who shared case-based examples and treatment strategies.
Session 2: Lung Problems and Infections in Hematological and Oncological Patient Follow-up
Chaired by Zeynep Karakaş, Ahmet Koç, and Bülent Karadağ, speakers included Deniz Tuğcu, Zeynep Seda Uyan, Sibel Tekgündüz, Saniye Girit, Ceyhun Bozkurt, Merdan Fayda, Cansu Yılmaz, Serap Karaman, Funda Çorapçıoğlu, and Sedat Öktem, who explored infection management and long-term monitoring.
Session 3: Lung Problems After KIT (Bone Marrow Transplantation)
Moderated by Sema Anak and Haluk Çokuğraş, presentations by Tunç Fışgın, Murat Elli, Dr. Sedat Öktem, Arzu Akçay, Dr. Yasemin Gökdemir, and Prof. Dr. Erkan Çakır focused on complications and management strategies post-transplant.
Session 4: Pediatric Chest Diseases “ Case-Based Discussions
This session covered common findings in hematology and oncology patients, with contributions from Yıldız Yıldırmak, Arif Kut, Çetin Timur, Hakan Yazan, Barış Yılmaz, Gülşah Tanyıldız, Almila Pınar Ergenekon, Yılmaz Ay, Cansu Yılmaz, and Saniye Girit. Multiple case studies were evaluated in depth, offering practical insights for clinical practice.
The symposium concluded with closing remarks, leaving participants with valuable updates, shared experiences, and strengthened professional collaboration. Recognized as a highly effective and informative scientific meeting, the symposium emphasized the importance of multidisciplinary approaches in managing lung problems among pediatric hematology and oncology patients.
