Overview and Purpose
Breast Augmentation, also known as breast enlargement, is a surgical procedure designed to increase the size, change the shape, and improve the symmetry of the breast. Whether you are seeking to restore volume lost after pregnancy or weight loss, or simply desire a more proportional figure, this procedure uses high-tech medical devices or fat transfer to enhance the chest profile
The biological goal of Breast augmentation surgery is to create a natural-looking volume that complements your unique skeletal frame. Many patients ask, “What is the difference between breast implants and augmentation?” Simply put, breast augmentation is the name of the surgical procedure itself, whereas breast implants are the physical medical devices (silicone or saline) used during that surgery to provide the new volume. At Liv Hospital, our purpose is to provide a safe, clinical environment where your aesthetic goals meet the highest medical standards.

Common Procedures
Every body is different, which is why we offer various “profiles” and placement methods:
The 45-55 rule is a clinical aesthetic guideline for achieving a ‘perfect’ natural breast shape. It defines the ideal distribution as 45% of the volume in the upper pole (above the nipple) and 55% in the lower pole (below the nipple), complemented by a nipple that tilts upward at a 20° angle.
Consultation and Preparation
A successful Breast Augmentation begins with a 3D anatomical simulation. At Liv Hospital, we use advanced technology to help you “try on” different sizes virtually. Your surgeon will measure your chest width, skin elasticity, and current tissue volume to ensure the chosen implant does not overwhelm your biological frame.
Breast augmentation surgery is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes 1 to 2 hours. Our surgeons utilize “minimal incision” techniques—usually hidden in the breast fold or around the areola—to ensure scars are as discreet as possible. We prioritize sub-muscular placement (under the chest muscle) for many patients to provide better long-term support and a more natural look.

Breast augmentation increases breast volume and size using an implant. A breast lift, or mastopexy, removes excess skin and tightens the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the breast without necessarily adding volume. Many patients require a combination of both to achieve their desired look.
Breast implants are not considered lifetime devices. While many last for 10 to 20 years or more without issues, they are subject to wear and tear. You may require replacement surgery in the future due to rupture, capsular contracture, or a desire to change size.
Current scientific evidence does not support a link between breast implants and an increased risk of breast cancer. However, there is a rare type of lymphoma (BIA ALCL) associated with certain textured implants, which is why smooth implants are often preferred.
Most women with breast implants can breastfeed. The incisions are usually placed in areas that minimize damage to the milk ducts and nerves. However, there is no guarantee, and some women may experience reduced milk production.
Modern cohesive gel silicone implants are designed to closely mimic the feel of natural breast tissue. When placed under the pectoral muscle, they are covered by your own tissue, making them less palpable and more natural to the touch.
