Post-Surgery Care
After completing your Eye Angiography, the first priority is managing the effects of the dilating drops. Your eyes will be sensitive to light and your vision will be blurry for four to eight hours. It is essential to wear high quality, dark sunglasses when leaving the clinic, even if it is a cloudy day. You should avoid reading, using a computer, or performing any task that requires fine detail until your pupils return to their normal size. Most patients find that their vision is back to baseline by the next morning.
If you received a dye injection in your arm, you should keep the small pressure bandage on for at least an hour to prevent bruising. You may notice a small lump or discoloration at the site, which is normal. The fluorescein dye will cause your urine to turn bright orange or “neon” yellow for twenty four hours.
Your skin and the whites of your eyes may also have a slight yellowish tint. This is not jaundice; it is simply the dye being processed by your body. Drinking plenty of water after the test helps your kidneys flush the dye out faster.
If you had a treatment injection (like anti-VEGF) following your angiography, your care is slightly different. Your eye may feel “gritty” or like there is something in it; this is often due to the cleaning solution used to sterilize the eye.
Following these simple steps at home is the best way to prevent a post procedure infection.
Recovery from retinal laser is usually very fast. Your vision may be dark or tinted (often pink or purple) for an hour as the retina “recovers” from the bright laser light. You may have a mild headache, which can be managed with standard over the counter pain relief. You do not usually need to wear a patch. Most patients can return to their normal activities, including work, the very next day. If you had a more extensive laser treatment (PRP), you might notice a temporary decrease in your night vision or peripheral vision, which you should discuss with your doctor.
While complications are rare, being vigilant is part of good post-procedure care. You should contact Liv Hospital immediately if you experience:
