Treatment and Care

Surgical Excellence and Comfort

lympAt Liv Hospital, the treatment phase of Circumcision (Sünnet) is defined by a commitment to “Surgical Excellence and Patient Comfort.” While the procedure itself involves the excision of the foreskin, the methodology varies significantly based on the patient’s age, anatomical needs, and the presence of underlying medical conditions. We treat circumcision not as a simple minor procedure, but as a formal surgery that requires a sterile operating environment, specialized instrumentation, and a “Zero-Pain” philosophy.

The goal of treatment at Liv Hospital is threefold: to achieve a perfect cosmetic result, to ensure functional integrity of the urinary tract, and to provide a trauma-free experience for the child or adult. Whether utilizing traditional methods or advanced technologies like laser and thermal cautery, our surgeons prioritize tissue preservation and rapid wound closure.

“Zero-Pain” Anesthesia Protocol

Anesthesia Protocols

Pain control is one of the most important aspects of circumcision, especially in pediatric patients. Liv Hospital applies a multi-layered anesthesia strategy tailored to age and medical condition.

For infants, a combination of local anesthesia and dorsal penile nerve block is used to fully numb the surgical area, ensuring a completely painless experience during the procedure.

For children and adults, sedation or general anesthesia is often preferred. This approach not only eliminates physical pain but also prevents psychological stress, anxiety, and movement during surgery. The result is a calm, controlled surgical environment that improves precision and safety.

Traditional Sleeve Resection Technique

Immediate Post-Operative Care

The sleeve resection method is considered the gold standard for circumcision in older children and adults.

In this technique, the surgeon performs two precise circular incisions to remove the foreskin in a controlled manner. The remaining skin edges are then carefully sutured using ultra-fine, absorbable stitches.

At Liv Hospital, this method is performed with meticulous attention to symmetry and cosmetic outcome, minimizing visible scarring and ensuring a natural post-operative appearance.

Thermal Cautery and Laser-Assisted Techniques

Modern circumcision techniques at Liv Hospital often include thermal cautery or laser-assisted devices to enhance surgical precision.

These advanced tools allow simultaneous cutting and sealing of blood vessels, which significantly reduces intraoperative bleeding. As a result, patients experience less swelling (edema), shorter procedure times, and faster recovery.

This technology is particularly beneficial for patients with increased bleeding risk or those seeking minimally invasive surgical options.

Gomco and Mogen Clamp Techniques for Newborns

For newborn circumcision, specialized devices such as the Gomco clamp and Mogen clamp are used.

These devices safely secure the foreskin while protecting the glans penis during removal. The procedure is typically completed in under 10 minutes.

At Liv Hospital, these methods are performed with extreme precision, resulting in a clean, uniform healing line and eliminating the need for sutures. The outcome is both cosmetically pleasing and medically safe.

Sutureless Circumcision with Tissue Adhesives

In selected pediatric cases, Liv Hospital utilizes medical-grade tissue adhesives instead of traditional stitches.

These advanced cyanoacrylate-based glues create a waterproof protective barrier over the surgical site. This reduces discomfort, eliminates suture marks, and allows for easier hygiene management during diaper use.

Sutureless techniques also shorten healing time and reduce post-operative irritation, making recovery smoother for young patients.

Correction of Buried Penis During Surgery

In some children, the penis may be partially hidden within the suprapubic fat tissue, a condition known as buried penis.

In such cases, simple circumcision is not sufficient. Liv Hospital surgeons perform specialized anchoring or “tacking” procedures that fix the penile skin to deeper fascial layers.

This ensures proper penile exposure, prevents retraction after surgery, and improves both functional and cosmetic outcomes.

Immediate Post-Operative Wound Care

Post-operative care begins immediately after surgery. At Liv Hospital, the surgical area is treated with advanced silicone-based dressings or antibiotic ointments.

These protective layers prevent the wound from sticking to clothing or diapers, significantly reducing post-operative pain and irritation. They also create a controlled healing environment that lowers the risk of infection and promotes faster tissue regeneration.

Management of Frenulum Breve

During circumcision, surgeons also assess the frenulum, the small band of tissue beneath the glans penis.

If the frenulum is too short or tight (a condition known as frenulum breve), it may cause pain or curvature during erection in later life. To prevent this, a simultaneous frenuloplasty is performed when necessary.

At Liv Hospital, this combined approach ensures both functional and anatomical correction in a single procedure.

Strict Sterile Operating Room Standards

All circumcision procedures at Liv Hospital are performed in fully equipped, HEPA-filtered operating rooms that meet international infection-control standards.

Unlike non-clinical or mass circumcision settings, every procedure is carried out under sterile surgical conditions with single-use instruments where appropriate.

This significantly reduces the risk of postoperative infection and ensures patient safety at the highest level.

Parent-Inclusive Pediatric Care Model

For pediatric patients, emotional comfort is as important as surgical success. Liv Hospital follows a compassionate care model that actively involves parents in the recovery process.

Parents are allowed to be present in the recovery room as the child wakes up from anesthesia. This reduces anxiety, provides emotional reassurance, and supports a smoother psychological recovery.

This family-centered approach reflects Liv Hospital’s philosophy of “Healing with Compassion”, where medical excellence is combined with emotional support.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Which surgical method is the best?

The “best” method depends on the patient’s age and anatomy. At Liv Hospital, our surgeons select the technique that will provide the most symmetrical and safe result for your specific case.

No. At Liv Hospital, we exclusively use “absorbable” (dissolvable) sutures. They typically disappear on their own within 7 to 14 days, eliminating the need for a painful removal procedure.

No. Once the tissue is surgically removed, it does not grow back. However, in “buried penis” cases, the penis may retreat into fat, making it look like it wasn’t circumcised; our surgeons correct this during the procedure.

In newborns, it takes about 10–15 minutes. In older children and adults, a formal surgical circumcision usually takes between 30 and 45 minutes.

If local anesthesia is used, they can eat. If sedation or general anesthesia is used, a fasting period of 6 hours is required for safety.
